Art and Culture in Kyoto

Kyoto is a world-famous center of historical Japanese art and culture, but it's also popular with students of contemporary art and design.

Thanks to a number of distinguished universities, Kyoto City alone graduates more than 2,000 students of the arts each year. Unfortunately, these young artists have few opportunities to promote their work after graduation.

Despite its deep connection to Japanese culture and limitless sources of artistic inspiration, Kyoto is not always an ideal environment for these contemporary artists. However, with your help, a new crowdfunding project launching on Japan Tomorrow in mid-March can change that!

Nara Hirokazu, a Kyoto resident, businessman, and art collector, has traveled and enjoyed contemporary art across Japan and around the world. While attending an exhibition at Kyoto University, he had the opportunity to speak directly with the artists about their perspectives and creative processes.

This inspired Mr. Nara to create the Kyoto Art Guild, a unique combination of studio and exhibition space.

This space will not only provide a venue for young artists to display and sell their works, but also allow guests to interact directly with the artists and learn more about the inspiration and creative process behind each piece.

Each studio will host tours that include both the artists and interpreters, who will facilitate communication between the artists, local visitors, and international guests alike.
