Illuminations, which begin once winter starts, are now a seasonal Japanese tradition.

Large cities such as Tokyo or Osaka are lit up by brilliant illuminations throughout the city during this period. The view of the city dyed in the colors of the lights will make you excited just by looking at them.

In this article, we will introduce you to three of our hand-picked recommended illuminations that can be seen in the suburbs of Tokyo. Let’s explore all over these facilities using Google Indoor View (Japanese).

Information on the illuminations are current as of 2017. The details of the illuminations and the event itself are subject to change depending on the year.

1. Country Farm Tokyo German Village

Country Farm Tokyo German Village is a place where you can enjoy the atmosphere of a rural German village and delicious German food while being in Japan. The village is also complete with entertainment facilities such as a Ferris wheel and rowboats.

Did you know that the Tokyo German Village will be covered in the dazzling lights of the illumination come winter?

This illumination is famous despite the contents being drastically changed every year. Fireworks can also be enjoyed at the same time among other things depending on the time period. This is definitely a spot we would like to recommend, even to those who have already seen the illuminations before.

2. Yomiuriland

The illumination at Yomiuriland is known to be held for a long period of time. For example, you can enjoy the brilliance of the illuminations from October 12th, 2017 to February 18th, 2018.

The pool, bustling with many people during summer vacation, will be adorned with illuminations such as these once it’s winter. The contents of the illumination become bigger each year; in 2015, the brilliance of four million balls of electric lights could be seen in the pool.

City Lights Creating Their Own Illuminations

This is slightly different from an illumination so to speak, but there is also a scenery spot we recommend where you can have an unbroken view of the lights in the streets of Tokyo.

3. Tokyo City View

At Tokyo City View on the 52F of Roppongi Hills, illuminations supervised by the planetarium creator Takayuki Ohira, are on display.

In Takayuki Ohira's "Starry Sky Illuminations @Sky Deck", you can enjoy the night view and starry sky as it spreads out in front of your eyes, while at your feet, glittering illuminations surround you.

The night view of Tokyo from the rooftop sky deck is breathtakingly beautiful. Let's take a closer look at it through Indoor View.

You can see Tokyo Tower from the right of the center in this panel. Aren't the lights of the city beautiful? This is the perfect example of the city creating its own illuminations.

The Sky Deck is the perfect place to enjoy both the stars spreading out in the clear sky above and the illuminations of Tokyo spreading out in front of you.

4. Palette Town Daikanransha

An illumination created by the lights of the town can be seen from the Palette Town Daikanransha in Odaiba.

The Daikanransha is a Ferris wheel where all the famous spots of Tokyo, such as the beautifully lit up Tokyo Gate Bridge, Tokyo Skytree, Tokyo Tower, Rainbow Bridge, and more, can be seen.

Let’s try and look at the view from the Ferris wheel through a simulated experience in Indoor View!

First, please try moving your cursor to the left side of the screen and clicking there. By doing that, you can enter the Ferris wheel.

As you continue clicking, the Ferris wheel gondola will gradually rise and the scenery will change together with it. Once you have reached the top, this time, move your cursor to the opposite side of the screen and click to make the gondola descend.

Spend a Vibrant Winter Night in Tokyo!

How was it? Were there any spots you were curious about? There are also various other places in Tokyo during the winter where you can enjoy illuminations and the night view outside of the spots we have introduced in this article.
