Shinjuku is one of the busiest areas in Tokyo, so there are plenty of places to eat and drink here. Out of all the dining places, Shinjuku is known to have a great number of izakayas. Unlike standard pubs or bars, izakayas are a great spot to grab a few drinks in the Japanese style. In this article, we would like to recommend five izakayas that have menus in other languages or staff who can assist you in another language than Japanese.

Tsuki no Miya Shinjuku Honten

One of the charms of Tsuki no Miya is its menu with a vast assortment. They carry many traditional dishes that match well with sake, such as tsukemono (*1), tamagoyaki (Japanese-style omelets), kushiyaki skewers, and more. In addition, they also carry western style dishes such as carpaccio. Many of the drinks here can only be found in Japan, such as the chuhai (*2), Japanese sake, and cocktails using various liquors. Inside the shop there are Japanese-style rooms that are completely private.

Along with English, Chinese (Simplified), and Korean menus, there are helpful staff members who can speak the languages as well.

*1 tsukemono: Japanese style pickles that are preserved in salt or vinegar and seasoning.
*2 chuhai: An alcoholic drink using shochu (distilled alcohol), fruit juice, and carbonated water.
