Being surrounded by the Sea of Japan and the Pacific Ocean, Aomori is a prefecture where you can get tasty seafood all year round! If you happen to be visiting Aomori, you might dream of stuffing yourself full with the freshest seafood around. That is why this time, we would like to introduce the Hasshoku Center in Hachinohe city where you can savor delicious seafood that you can grill on your own.
What Is the Hasshoku Center?
Hasshoku Center is a giant market where you can find fresh seafood that was just caught moments ago, rare dried delicacies, souvenirs and specialties of Hachinohe. Extending 170 meters across, there are as many as 60 shops standing side by side here, so you are likely to find the majority of ingredients you may want on-site.
There is also the Kuriya Stadium where you can savor delightful local dishes made with the fish caught in the nearby sea.
Ingredients from Aomori All at Once
As you walk through the Hasshoku Center, you will find many glossy, fresh seafood options. Each store lines up their selection of fish and various seafood carefully so you can go through the collection to possibly find some rare and unique creatures you haven't seen before.
You can see the gloss of the red shortspine thornyhead and see how fresh it is! You can easily see its freshness through the redness since as time passes, it will gradually turn orange.
There were plenty of horsehair crab as well. Apparently, the heavier ones tend to be the tastier ones. At times, you may find the smaller ones to be heavier than imagined. They are the ones with more meat inside and are tastier. It's a good idea to choose your crabs based on price rather than how big they are.
There were also squid and shellfish. Everything looked very tasty and looked good to eat!
If you start craving some seafood at Hasshoku Center, there is a perfect space where you can grill the seafood you bought on the spot.
If You Start Craving, Go to Shichirinmura
Once you find some seafood to try, head to Shichirinmura. Here, you can grill the fresh seafood delicacies you bought.
At the entrance, mention how many people are in your group. You will then need to pay for the facility usage fee (for the grill) which is 300 yen for adults and 100 yen for children. Once your payment is complete, you will be taken to your seat. You may then head back to the stores to pick up the ingredients of your choice.
One thing to keep in mind when purchasing at the store is to mention "Shichirinmura you ni onegaishimasu!" (Please prepare it for the Shichirinmura.) That way, the people at the shop are aware to prepare the fish to be grilled easily. Upon purchasing, you can head back to the Shichirinmura to start grilling.
You can also purchase soft drinks, beer and rice to accompany your meal as well.
Seafood in Aomori is Firm and Tasty
Set your selected seafood on the grill and let it cook for about five minutes. You will soon smell the fragrance of the sea as things start to cook up! Pour some soy sauce on them when ready and eat up! The scallops eaten during this interview were very delicious.
The oyster shells can get very hot when eating, but the rich and creamy flavor was very tasty!
Whenever you go on a trip, trying the local products and delicacies on site is one of the best parts of the journey. Hasshoku Center is a spot where even locals come to shop and you may spot many workers and customers conversing with each other. If you aren't sure what to purchase or find an interesting fish, why not ask the workers or the locals in the area? They may be able to advise you on tasty ways to eat or provide information only locals know! Why not stop by Hasshoku Center on your next trip to Hachinohe city?
