Ginza (銀座), a trendy town popular not only in Japan, but with travelers from all over the world, is a great spot well-known for its amazing variety of shopping options.

In the spring of 2016, Tōkyū Plaza Ginza (東急プラザ銀座) proudly opened; it is the largest store in the Ginza area. The Plaza is chock-full of tourist friendly shops and services making it easy for visitors to feel at ease and have fun shopping while on vacation.

In a previous article, we introduced some of the best souvenirs found at Tōkyū Plaza Ginza; this time we'll be introducing to you the services that can fill you in on the latest trends in Tokyo, as well as shops that are convenient for tourists.

The Biggest Duty-free Shop in Tokyo

Taking up two full floors of Tōkyū Plaza Ginza is the largest duty-free shop in Tokyo - Lotte Duty Free Ginza. In most duty-free shops visitors to Japan are only exempt from paying sales tax, but at Lotte Duty Free, customs tax, alcohol tax, and tobacco tax are also excluded, just like at the airport. On the 9th floor you will find most of Japan's best cosmetic brands, such as SKⅡ, Shiseido, FANCL, Sekkisei, THREE and others.

The 8th floor has stores such as GUCCI, MCM, Samantha Thavasa, OMEGA, and other brand name boutiques. As many brands often offer Japan-exclusive goods, you might be able to find something here that cannot be bought anywhere else in the world.

On top of that, there is a system where items that were bought on the 8th-9th floor can be directly sent to the duty-free counter inside the airport check point departure gates. Wouldn't it be great to have less luggage to deal with?

Duty-free Paperwork in the Same Building

For goods purchased outside the 8th-9th floor duty-free shops, you can use the 7th floor duty-free counter. Being able to do all the paperwork in one go for duty-free items purchased in the building is very convenient.

Let's Buy Real Tokyo Fashion

Tokyo is one of the most prominent fashion cities in the world. Especially popular are "real clothes" - fashion items that are wearable in everyday life. A select store, HINKA RINKA, produced by the well-known Tōkyū Department Store can be found here. The unique displays that give you a sense of what is hot in Tokyo now is definitely worth a look.

Within the entire shopping center are more than 30 domestic brand boutiques, offering an unlimited selection in styles ranging from classic mode to natural, organic styles. It really makes you want to bring home some Tokyo-styled clothes.

Take a Break in an Open, Airy Space

After shopping in a huge mall, you are sure to need some time to relax and take a break. When you feel that way, go to the KIRIKO LOUNGE on the 6th floor and take a rest while looking out at the cityscape in Ginza. The high glass ceiling gives off an open, airy feeling that really helps you to relax.

On the roof there is an open terrace called the KIRIKO TERRACE. With its ample greenery it's the perfect place to kick back and relax, especially on a sunny day.

The bright contrast between green and white makes it feel like a resort you would find in Asia rather than a shopping center in a busy city. And when it's lit up at night, the atmosphere changes again.

Restaurants Where You Can Truly Enjoy a "Taste of Japan"

Tōkyū Plaza Ginza has 39 restaurants. At Ginza Tetsujū, high quality Japanese beef is grilled to perfection on a flat iron grill. If you take a counter seat, you'll also be able to get a clear view of Ginza as you dine.

The domestic Japanese beef steaks that are cooked right before your eyes are soft and juicy. Since there is an iron counter you can also enjoy okonomiyaki at Ginza Tetsujū.

If you would rather try a more traditional dish, a Japanese restaurant well-known in the Tsukiji fish market area, Ginza Itadori (銀座虎杖) is up next. They are most well-known for their freshly cooked steamed rice and wide variety of Japanese side dishes known as obannzai.

When you first open the lid of an earthen pot filled with rice, a deliciously warm steam comes rising up. Freshly cooked rice is a must have and certainly one of the things you must try while in Japan.

At Bareburger you can enjoy some healthy, organic hamburgers. The store interior is very fashionable and seems like the perfect place to snap some shots for your SNS.

Colorful cakes that really stand out can be found at Pâtisserie lesannées folles. Here you can purchase artful sweets made by Japanese patisserie Ken'ichi Kikuchi, who has won numerous Japanese awards for his pastries.

So what do you think? This time we took a look at some of the fashion boutiques, lifestyle stores, restaurants and services available at Tōkyū Plaza Ginza that you might want to enjoy while in Japan. It's the perfect place to get an idea of Japan and Tokyo in the here and now.
