What is Toji?

Toji Temple was registered as a World Heritage Site as one of the constituent assets of the "Historic Assets of Ancient Kyoto." To mark the 30th anniversary of the site's inscription, a special viewing event will be held in collaboration with the World Heritage Site "Toji Hyakuri Documents."

Introducing our events：Matsu plan

Matsu Plan: A plan that includes a matcha experience in the normally closed "guest hall" and an explanation of the Toji Hyakugo Monjo

In this plan, you will hear interesting stories about the Toji Hyakuho Monjo while enjoying a cup of matcha in the normally closed guest hall. The matcha will be provided by Ozawa Seifuen, which has a deep connection with Toji Temple.The Ozawa family has lived in the current location in front of Toji Temple for generations, owned a tea plantation in Uji, and operated a tea manufacturing business.The owner, Mr. Ozawa, will tell you the story of Toji Temple and matcha that has been passed down for generations. This plan also includes a "special tour of the night illumination" and a "special guided tour of Toji Temple's guest house "Kokobo" and the national treasure "Rengemon" guided by a monk."

A special guided tour of Toji Temple's guest house "Shogobo" and the national treasure "Rengemon" led by a monk

Guided by a monk, you will have a special tour of Toji Temple's guesthouse, "Shogobo", which is usually closed to the public, and the illuminated national treasure "Rengemon". This will be the first time that the national treasure "Rengemon" will be lit up at night.

Special nighttime illumination viewing of the World Heritage site "Toji Temple" ~ The world of Toji Temple that remains from Heian-kyo ~

You can spend a night at Toji Temple, enveloped in gentle light. In this extraordinary space, enjoy a luxurious moment where you forget about time. Visitors will receive a goshuin (stamp) commemorating the 30th anniversary of the registration of "Cultural Assets of Ancient Kyoto" as a World Heritage Site.

[Ume Plan] 18:00-21:00 (last admission at 20:30)

Price

[Matsu Plan] 5,500 yen per person (same price for adults and children)

[Bamboo Plan] 3,500 yen per person (same price for adults and children.)

[Plum Plan] 1,500 yen per person (same price for adults and children.)

For all plans, admission is free for preschool children.
