What is Kyoto's memory photo studio "HAGOROMOYA"?

HAGOROMOYA is a photo studio specializing in Japanese clothing that opened in Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto City in 2024. It is located near historical tourist attractions such as Gion, Yasaka Shrine, and Kiyomizu-dera Temple, and is easily accessible from Kyoto's major tourist spots.

HAGOROMOYA offers two main types of services. One is "location shooting," which shoots in the actual streets of Kyoto. The other is "studio shooting," where you can choose a historical Japanese scene to shoot in the studio. It's a virtual background shoot using the latest technology.

Our staff, who have extensive experience in the wedding industry, will handle everything from dressing, hair styling, and photography.

Hagoromoya's roots lie in over 50 years of experience in the Japanese wedding industry. Drawing on the experience gained from photographing over 40,000 couples a year, Hagoromoya's deep understanding of Japanese aesthetics is the foundation of the company.

Hagoromoya aims to let people experience Japanese traditions in a real way. We decided to open the studio because we wanted to provide a place where people can deepen their understanding of Japanese culture by not only enjoying looking at it, but also "wearing," "taking pictures," and "feeling" it.

Here, kimonos are not just clothing, but an experience of wearing culture, and the history and stories contained in each piece can be taken home in the form of photographs.

Dress Up and Explore "LOCATION PLAN"

One of the menus at HAGOROMOYA is the "LOCATION PLAN." With the location plan, you can take photos in the "Gion Shirakawa" area, and you can also take photos riding a rickshaw as an option.

There are two plans available: the "MEOTO PLAN" for couples and the "FAMILY PLAN" recommended for families. The great thing about this plan is that you can choose the one that best suits your needs.

MEOTO PLAN

The MEOTO PLAN is a recommended plan for couples and married couples. Kimono are provided for both men and women, and professional staff will carefully select the outfit, dress you in the kimono, set your hair, and take the photo.

This plan is perfect for special anniversaries and travel memories, and experienced staff will be on hand to assist you, so even first-time visitors can use it with confidence. Another plus is that in addition to the 30 shots, you also get a special photo print bonus. (3 prints of 3 photos per frame *1 print: 102mm x 152mm)

FAMILY PLAN

The FAMILY PLAN is for a family of three with one child.

This will include 40 shots, more than the MEOTO PLAN, and you will receive up to four prints. (4 prints on 4 photo mounts per frame *1 print: 102mm x 152mm)

By paying an additional fee for each child, you can have your photos taken with siblings or other relatives, rather than just a family of three.

*Child height guideline: 100-140cm (3'4"-4'7")

Bring Japan’s Scenery to Life "STUDIO PLAN"

The "STUDIO PLAN" allows you to take photos with any background you like, regardless of weather or time.

The studio is equipped with a wide variety of virtual backgrounds that recreate traditional Japanese landscapes and architecture, allowing you to take realistic and impressive photos that will make you feel as if you have traveled back in time to that era, creating fond memories.

There are many costumes to choose from, and each plan has a theme, so you can enjoy a performance that suits your tastes.

SHOGUN PLAN

The SHOGUN PLAN allows you to wear authentic armor and take photos as a warlord from the Sengoku period. The texture and decoration of the armor are authentic, making this a must-have plan for fans of history and Japanese culture.

The Shogun was appointed by the Emperor as the military commander of the country, and historically was the de facto supreme authority. Imagine yourself as a Shogun and take home some impressive photos.

OOKU PLAN

At its peak in the Edo period (1603-1868), over 2,000 women lived in the Ooku. At OOKU PLAN, you can wear gorgeous uchikake kimonos as costumes, and you can also enjoy a more elegant atmosphere with a set that evokes the Ooku of that time.

*Ooku: During the Edo period (1603-1868), it was a special place for women only, located within the castle where the Shogun lived. The Shogun's wife, family, and maids (women who looked after him) lived here, and men were rarely allowed inside. It is known as a special world in which women lived, even in the history of Japan.

UCHIKAKE PLAN

At UCHIKAKE PLAN, you can try on a traditional wedding attire called an Uchikake and experience a dignified photo session. Recommended for formal commemorative photos or special occasions.

MEOTO PLAN

This plan combines the OOKU PLAN and SHOGUN PLAN and is recommended for couples and partners. You can also choose spot makeup and backgrounds as with other plans. As shown in the next photo, you can also take family photos by combining the MEOTO PLAN and WARABE PLAN. It seems like it would be a great way to take a special photo for Shichi-Go-San or anniversaries.

WARABE PLAN

"Warabe" is an old Japanese word that refers to children up to about 10 years old.

The costumes provided by WARABE PLAN are from the traditional Japanese event "Shichi-Go-San" which is still celebrated today, and are filled with wishes for the growth and happiness of children.

To visit Hagoromoya, you must make a reservation in advance on their official website. The website is in English, so even if you don't understand Japanese, you can use it with ease.
