Transportation Within Sapporo City

Subways, buses and street-level trains all run throughout Sapporo City. The city roads are laid out in an easy-to-understand grid.

Going to Sapporo from Tokyo

By Airplane

From Haneda Airport to Sapporo (Shin-Chitose Airport): One hour and 40 minutes one-way, ticket prices range from 10,000 to 50,000 yen.

From Narita Airport to Sapporo (Shin-Chitose Airport): One hour and 40 minutes one-way, ticket prices range from 5000 to 30,000 yen.

When using Narita Airport, take the JR Limited Narita Express from Tokyo Station. The trip takes an hour, and costs 3,000 yen.

By Shinkansen

The train journey from Tokyo to Sapporo takes about eight hours and 20 minutes, and a ticket costs 28,920 yen (on a regular train with reserved seating). Due to the length of time and cost, we strongly recommend flying.

Via Tokyo Station, you can take the Shinkansen trains “Hayabusa” or “Hayate” (four hours and 30 minutes), then from Shin-Hakodate Hokuto Station, you can take the JR Limited Hokuto or Super Hokuto train. After another three and a half hours, you will arrive at Sapporo Station.

Tip: The JR Hokkaido Pass is recommended for those traveling via train around Sapporo and Hokkaido. Once you arrive in Sapporo, you can use this all-you-can-ride pass for taking daytrips around Sapporo. See more on Voyagin.com for details and reservations.
