Lodging & Kin Osaka, A Warm Guesthouse Right By Tsutenkaku Tower
Written by ayu
If you're in Osaka and you want to visit Tsutenkaku Tower, why not stay at Lodging & Kin? The atmosphere of this bright, warm guesthouse has gathered many fans, locals and visitors alike. In this article, we show you why.
Lodging & Kin Osaka, a guesthouse which opened in the summer of 2016, is only a seven minute walk from the Tsutenkaku Tower, symbol of Osaka City, and in walking distance of major music venues and the Dotonbori district. Though the guesthouse is in the heart of Osaka, guests can relax in a calm atmosphere like that of a mountain hut.
Theme of the Guesthouse
”Traveling isn’t about going far away, but doing something new in a new place. I was stuck in the same old everyday routine, so I decided to start that guesthouse. Many different people gather there, and teach me about new places and experiences. I want to build a guesthouse that will inspire guests to change their routines in some way.
Lodging Kin Osaka was created with the owner’s words in mind. The furniture, interior and even the homepage are carefully designed, in pursuit of a vibe that will keep guests coming back.
The Outdoors-Loving Owner
The owner of the guesthouse, Takashi Yamashita, was born in Kanagawa and went to university in Tokyo. After graduating, he worked for a pharmaceuticals company for six years, then quit and decided to open a guesthouse in Osaka.
He resolved to build the guesthouse in a way that evoked his own favorite trips, music, camping experiences and the like. After repeated consultations with local architects, carpenters and electricians over five months, he completed the guesthouse. Apparently, the interior decoration and exterior paint job was done by the owner’s friends and acquaintances.
Let’s Peek into the Carefully Designed Interior
Duck Down and Enter the Foyer
The entranceway is built to be a little low. Open the door and bend a little, like you would when passing through noren (small Japanese curtains), to go inside. Thanks to the glass panel set into the top of the door, the guesthouse feels a little different from the inside, as opposed to the view from outside.
Four Types of Rooms
Rooms in the women-only or co-ed dormitory rooms are 3500 yen a night.
Double rooms, where friends and couples can stay together (in bunk beds) are 8500 yen a night.
Japanese-style rooms with tatami mats are 8500 yen.
All rooms have access to shared shower rooms and bathrooms. The beds and ladders, among other things, are handmade. You can sleep comfortably in wood-scented warmth.
Immaculate Facilities and Amenities
Guests have free access to shower rooms, powder rooms, toilets, Wi-Fi, reading lamps, dryers and air conditioners. The guesthouse is also fully stocked with amenities like shampoo and body soap. You can also purchase towels and toothbrushes, so you can stay without bringing a bag too.
A Living Room and Bar To Bring Guests and Locals Together
”I look forward to putting on some music and serving drinks to the guests,” the owner said of his bar, his pride and joy. It serves as a space for guests and the locals who come for drinks and to come together.
The tree that juts from the center of the floor was actually chosen by the owner, and brought down from a mountain!
