Take your own route, a stroll at Yokohama's Minatomirai
Written by Kazuki Tsuchido
Featuring the stations and the port, Minatomirai district, Yokohama has various sight seeing spots tourist attractions to enjoy.
I will lead you on my favourite strolling route when I head off there from Yokohama station.
Have a walk around Minatomirai where there is plenty to see!
Let's start at the east exit of Yokohama station.
Just off the station, you will find the head quarters of Nissan Global which has an open corridor on the second floor and its car exhibition on the first floor which has a big appeal for car fans. You can go through it anytime and enjoy the exhibition. They also have a gift shop and cafe.
After passing through the corridor, you will see Shintakashima station (Minatomirai line). From here, you go through an alley.
This is 'Grand Mall Park' which is over 700 metres in width. This spacious and comfortable park with lots of greenery and many open spaces is my favourite.
The park also has cafe featuring seats outside, it may be worth having lunch here first when you make a late start on your sightseeing.
On your left, there is a uniquely designed shopping centre, 'MARK IS'.
On your right, you will find Yokohama Art Museum, a popular place for families and couples.
In places along the route, you can see artistic objects. One of the attractive features of Minatomirai is that you come across monuments like this while strolling around the district.
When you pass this part of the area, you will finally see Yokohama port. Around here, there are many shopping malls such as Queen's Square and Landmark Tower.
Now, cross the wood-deck railway bridge which was used for cargo transport. This is particularly refreshing on a sunny day.
It seems that there are many benches and spaces to hang out all around Minatomirai. Have a seat, and you may be able to find something you could not see while walking.
Right after crossing under interestingly formed arch of Nabios Yokohama, Red Brick Warehouse will be just in front of you! You can see a shopping mall 'World Porters' on the left, and the 'Cup Noodle Museum' on the right. This part of the area is also worth popping by.
Here we are at the Red Brick Warehouse.
Minatomirai district is full of spots and I wish I could describe all of them. The route which I introduced may be quite a long walk. You can start from Shintakashima or Minatomirai station instead, or drop by anywhere you fancy along the way. Make your own route plan and enjoy it!
