Jindaiji Temple(深大寺)is in Choufu-city, suburb of Tokyo. The area has so rich greenery that you wouldn't think it is at a short distance from the Center of Tokyo.

It is wonderful to go to play at the temple in the nature, but enjoying some sweets at shops and cafes in the area could be a reason too.

Japanese style cafe around the temple

After a visit to the Jindaiji Temple, walk around the surroundings. There are Japanese style sweet shops and cafes. You can find a various kinds of traditional sweets there. They are nostalgic tastes for Japanese.

The above photo shows one of them. It is "Karumeyaki(かるめ焼き)," Japanese cookies made of sugar and baking soda. This is a taste of good old days.

A lot of sweets and candies, you can find around the area, have enchanted Japanese people for centuries. Bright colored candies are good for present. "Odango damplings (お団子)," "Fugashi(ふ菓子)", soft candy bar made of gluten and brown cane sugar, "Bekkoame (べっこう飴)," brown transparent hard candy, "Amazake(甘酒)," a sweet drink made from fermented rice, and so on. Eye-catching candies and refined sweetness would make you do a shopping spree.

Let's have sweets in the greenery

First, buy a sweet you like in a shop. Then sit on a bench prepared outside and take a time to enjoy it under the tree.

The area is said to be about 2℃ cooler than the central part of Tokyo because it is in a valley where cold air remains and transpiration is occurred by abundant spring water and rich greenery. It was surely cooler than Shibuya and Shinjuku, I felt.

In Jindaiji Temple and the vicinity, visitors experience a sort of old days.
