The Toshio Suzuki and Studio Ghibli Exhibition is back in Tokyo from April 20th, 2019 until May 12th, 2019. The special exhibition related to one of Studio Ghiblis most important creators will return for a limited time after its major success in 2018.

Studio Ghibli is known for some of the most successful anime movies in and outside Japan. "My Neighbor Totoro", "Spirited Away" and "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind" are all movies produced by Studio Ghibli.

Toshio Suzuki has helped to create these successful movies in his over 40 years with Studio Ghibli. He is known as an important producer at Studio Ghibli. His expertise is words and writing and although it might not first come to mind when thinking of Ghibli Movies, you can find his work all over their most famous movies.

This Special Exhibition is only held for a very short time and highlights the "words" of Toshio Suzuki. If you are able to read Japanese you will recognize the famous quotes alongside the movie artworks exhibited. If you can't read Japanese don't worry, you can still enjoy the stunning artwork itself.

You will also be able to get your personal omikuji, or fortune slips, through a number you will pull out of a giant "Yubaba" or "Zeniba" head. These witch sisters are important characters from Spirited Away. The fortune slips will have brief explanations in English.

The famous bathhouse of Spirited Away will also be on display. It constantly changes between night and day view. How about taking a picture with it?

Of course, there will be special goods as well. Many of them are shrine related like ema (Japanese prayer plates) or omamori (lucky amulets).

There will also be a couple of Ghibli inspired snacks at the "Masu Masu Cafe" located inside the same complex. Items such as a Totoro-style shaved ice, a soot sprite dessert, and Spirited Away inspired rice balls will be on the menu.

The exhibition is held at the Kanda Myojin Shrine from April 20th until May 12th, 2018. The recently opened cultural complex "EDOCCO" will serve as the exhibition hall.

If you prefer avoiding large crowds you should visit the exhibition before the 9th as the famous Kanda Festival will be held from May 9th to May 15th at the same shrine.

During the time of the exhibition, you can take part in a stamp rally in collaboration with the Tokyo Metro. You can get the stamp card at the venue as well as at some of the participating stations. Collect stamps while visiting popular shrines and areas along the Tokyo Metro Line. Once your card is filled up, you can submit it at the venue to be eligible for a special price.
