Uji city in Kyoto Prefecture is a famous for Byodoin Temple, a World Heritage site which is also featured as the design on 10 yen coins.
Uji is also one of the main tea growing areas in Japan. Both the green tea and matcha (powdered green tea) produced here in Uji are famous for their quality not only in Japan also all over the world.
There was an international event called the Kyoto Uji Ochagai Meguri - Kyoto Uji Matcha Town on Saturday, February 28th, and Sunday, March 1st, 2015.
What is Ochagai Meguri?
Three shopping streets, Ujibashi-Dori, Byodoin-Omotesando and Uji Genji Town in Uji, organized this event in collaboration with Uji city government. There are 51 shops in total on these three shopping streets. You can get useful information about these shops and the streets themselves if you sign up for this event through your smartphone.
