Shopping in Asakusa: Variety Goods in “Palm” with Love
Written by Shiori Nakajima
Lots and lots of Selected Treasures
Variety shop “Palm” is a shop of “selected favorites” of the owner. It stands on Edo street, a 5-minute walk from Asakusa station, one road away from Sumida river.
As the shop name “Palm” suggests, items that might be sold in a south sea island are lined on the wall. Just looking is fun, like the big-sized model ships and cars that come into view.
On the left side of the shop, goods of various sizes are displayed to create an ethnic atmosphere. You can find a high-sensed CD of handmade jazz “ATELIER SAWANO” (*1).
(*1)A record label that does all work only by manual; from selecting music, jacket design to shipping.
On the right side of the shop are Japanese goods. A collaboration project geta (下駄, Japanese wooden clogs, sandal) with a workshop in Oita area, various types of towels, and a downtown style tenugui (手拭い, thin cotton hand towel)… Each item was selected by the shop with a strong feeling of quality and “love”; from all over Japan. Anything from the lineup will make a great gift for a lady.
Girl’s Dream Stationery
There is a “craft corner” near the register. Handmade accessories are sure cute, but here is what draws my attention!
Many kinds of stamps, some unique ribbons, and memopads. They are all so cute, I can’t choose one. You can make your original stationary and cards, not just for girls but also for boys. Why not get your only one, if you come to “Palm”.
You can feel the owner’s attachment to each item in this shop. “Palm” is crammed with stuff and sure to get your curiosity exited. There will be something for anybody, regardless of age and gender so please have a look .
