McDonald's Japan introduced three exclusive rice burgers to its night menu. For now, the rice burgers will only be available for a limited time at McDonald's stores Japan-wide.

In Japan, rice is a staple dish in almost every meal so what better place for McDonald's to start introducing a rice burger than here.

Three of their most popular burgers now come with patties made out of rice instead of their regular buns. These limited-edition burgers are called gohan burgers. "Gohan" means rice in Japanese.

The rice patties are based on Japanese grilled rice balls. They are flavored with a lightly sweetened soy sauce.

The Gohan Teriyaki Burger (390 yen) features a pork patty marinated in teriyaki sauce, topped with lettuce and lemon-mayonnaise. The lemon gives it a refreshing twist.

The Gohan Bacon Lettuce Burger (410 yen) comes with a beef patty, smoked bacon, and cheddar cheese. Its flavor is reminiscent of Okinawa's popular "spam onigiri".

The Gohan Chicken Filet O’ (410 yen) contains a crispy fried chicken breast, lettuce, and a cream-tomato sauce. It is the simplest of the three choices.

If you like McDonald's burgers and rice balls, then the new gohan burgers are definitely worth a try. For now, they will only be available until mid-May 2020 as part of the recently introduced night menu. The night menu is available from 17:00 until closing time or until 4:59 at the twenty-four-hour branches.
