Feast Your Eyes On Matsuno's Gigantic Sushi In Ishikawa!
Written by Y.Matt
Today, we are happy to introduce Sushi Restaurant Matsuno, located in Kanazawa. Although Ishikawa prefecture is already famous for high-quality seafood, Matsuno enchants their customers with their exquisite and delicious sushi.
Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture - In the Spotlight
On the 14th of March, 2015, the Hokuriku Shinkansen Line was finally opened for the people of Hokuriku region (*1). Thanks to this newly opened shinkansen line, it is now possible to get to Kanazawa in Ishikawa prefecture in just two hours and 28 minutes from Tokyo.
As it became much easier to reach the Hokuriku region from Tokyo and other parts of the country, many tourists chose Kanazawa as their next destination in 2015.
Today, we will introduce one of the well-known sushi restaurants you can find in Kanazawa – Sushi Restaurant Matsuno. Ishikawa is famous for its variety of delicious, high-quality fish, thanks to the cold and warm currents mixing in the sea in Ishikawa’s vicinity, and this restaurant is known to be a place where you can get fresh fish of both extraordinary quality and taste.
*1 Hokuriku region: a region in the northern part of Honshu Island in Japan, along with the coastline of the Japanese sea. Some of the prefectures in this region include Niigata Prefecture, Ishikawa Prefecture, and others.
Although in the Outskirts, There’s Always a Line of People Waiting!
It takes 25 minutes by car to reach the restaurant from Kanazawa Station or 30 minutes on foot from Unoke Station on the JR Nanao Line.
Although its location could not be considered easily reachable as it is in the suburb of the city, there is always a line of around ten or more people waiting for the restaurant to open at 12:00.
The eagerly waiting customers are not only from the town – there are numerous people who learned about Sushi Restaurant Matsuno via the internet or from other people who already fell in love with their charming menu. Also, thanks to modern technology and apps like Instagram and its tagging system, word about their delicious sushi is spreading around even faster.
The Secret Behind its Popularity Will Bring a Smile to Your Face!
Our choice for today was First-Class Nigiri Sushi which is 4000 yen (plus tax). We imagine you have already noticed it from the picture, but yes, it is exactly as it appears – the toppings on each sushi piece are gigantic in real life, too!
While it was already well known that the sushi here was larger than usual, thanks to the riches of the sea nearby, Matsuno won the hearts (and the surprised reactions) of the locals and people from other places because they took their sushi-topping-size game to another level – a gigantic one!
But, if you think the size is all there is to it, prepare to be even more amazed – the taste too, is superb! This toro piece (fatty tuna) melts away easily, tantalizing your taste buds, tongue and heart as soon as you put it in your mouth with its exquisite deliciousness.
As they provide their sushi in such a generous size, it is difficult for anyone to pick them up with chopsticks. Our recommendation is to rely on your hands solely, to be able to fully concentrate on the taste alone. And don’t worry if you get your hands dirty during the process, as there is water constantly flowing at each of the counter seats for you to wash your fingers.
You won’t get enough of the softness and silkiness of the shirako (roe) with each bite you take! The rare marine delicacie,s such as soft roe, abalone, or firefly squid you can’t easily find in the city, are part of the overall appeal of this respected restaurant.
Even if you spill some of the precious salmon roe, there is hardly any need to panic. You’ll realize it soon, too, but all of the sushi pieces you get from the friendly chef look like they are about to spill all over the table because of the quantity.
We bet you won’t be able to stop from laughing when you see the size of this sushi with your own eyes.
As a matter of fact, you'll constantly hear things like “This is enormous!” or “This is too good to be true!” coming from the other customers.
And your smile won’t be fading anytime soon – especially after you’ve actually tasted the restaurant’s specialties. The smiles and the joy coming from the surprised look when you see the food and the surprised reaction when you taste it might just be Matsuno’s greatest forte.
If you felt the irresistible urge to visit this restaurant after reading this, it would be good to make an appointment beforehand or to come 10-15 minutes prior to opening. Let Matsuno become your exciting and delicious reason to visit “the kingdom of marine products” Kanazawa.
