Shizuoka

Intro

Shizuoka prefecture borders Kanagawa, and shares Japan’s national symbol and World Heritage site, the famous Mount Fuji, with its neighbor, Yamanashi prefecture. The majority of those wanting to climb Mount Fuji or visit any of its famous ice caverns, come via Shizuoka, which makes this a hiker and mountain climber’s paradise.

Shizuoka has plenty of other things to offer its visitors though, from famous hot spring resorts like Atami to history and museum-rich Izu, a stunning rebuilt Japanese castle in Kakegawa, and much more. Shizuoka is also known for its green tea and farms, many of which are also available for farm stay programs too. Rich in nature, Shizuoka is the place to go if you are interested in seeing the untouched natural landscape of Japan away from the crowds.
