Shiobara Onsen Village, a hot spring heritage site where you can enjoy a variety of hot springs, seasonal flavors, and spectacular views in each season, is located along the valley of the Houkigawa River, which cuts into the mountains that extend northwest from the vast Nasunogahara in northern Tochigi Prefecture. It is a general term for hot spring resorts in 11 districts. The hot springs are said to have been discovered in 806 A.D., and with a history of over 1,200 years, they have healed the minds and bodies of people who visit. Since ancient times, hot springs known as Shiobara 11 Hot Springs have been dotted around the area, and hot water gushes out from approximately 150 hot springs. It is rare in Japan to have hot springs with a variety of spring qualities and ingredients in one area, and it is attractive that you can choose the hot water depending on your physical condition and mood and take a relaxing soak.
