Sugaya Tatara Yamauchi

'Sugaya Tatara Sannai' suddenly appears in the deep mountains in the southern part of Unnan City. It is said to be the motif of Tataraba in ``Princess Mononoke,'' and it is the only place in the country that remains in Unnan City. Tatara ironmaking is an ancient Japanese ironmaking method in which iron is obtained by burning iron sand and charcoal in an earthen furnace. At its peak around 300 years ago, it is said that approximately 80% of Japan's iron was supplied by ironworks in the Chugoku Mountains, including Sugaya Tatara. Sugaya Tatara Sannai is highly acclaimed for the fact that it still exists as a village, consisting of the remains of a steelworks and the residences of people who worked in the ironworks, and is visited by visitors from all over the world.
