Chie no Mochi (Amanohashidate)

This is a specialty rice cake that can be enjoyed at the four teahouses lined up from the right as soon as you exit the Sanmon gate of Chion-ji Temple in Amanohashidate: Yoshino Chaya, Hikobei Chaya, Kanshichi Chaya, and Chitose Chaya. This small rice cake, about the size of a thumb, is topped with plenty of bean paste, inspired by the famous proverb "Three heads together make the wisdom of Manjusri" and is associated with the Bodhisattva Manjusri of Chion-ji Temple. It is said that eating this soft rice cake will give you wisdom. The history of Chie no Mochi is very old, dating back to the Karaku era. It is a great way to relax and enjoy it after visiting Chion-ji Temple.
