Takura Ushi Shrine

It is a rare shrine that has a torii gate but no main building. In the past, it was used to pray for the healing of domestic cattle, but now it is also used to pray for the safety of one's family, a good harvest, and prosperous business, and many worshipers visit the shrine, especially during the Ushi Shrine Festival on January 5th. Those who come to pray offer a Bizen-yaki calf (also sold on the side of the approach to the shrine), take home the one they have already offered, and return it with another one when the wish is fulfilled. The number of cows offered in this way has increased rapidly and is now said to number over 300,000.
