Kannon-iwa Rock

Among the many strangely shaped rocks at Kuniga Coast, this tall and narrow stone column (about 40 m above sea level) stands out. From the sea, the shape of the rock resembles the figure of Kannon, the bodhisattva, hence the name. Depending on the season, the sun sets on top of the stone column, resembling a candle, thus giving the rock its other name - Candle Rock. This spectacular can only be enjoyed on land. *Kannon-iwa Rock is located near Tsutenkyo Arch and visitors can walk down the path from Kuniga Car Park, which is connected to the Kuniga Coast Hiking Trail. Kuniga Coast is selected as one of Japan's best 100 sunset locations.
