Tendai sect Myotokusan Jinshakuji Temple

Belonging to the Tendai sect of Buddhism, the temple was founded in 991 by the monk Keiho and is said to have been the devout follower of Emperors Ichijo and Sanjo. The temple enshrines Yakushi Nyorai (a nationally designated important cultural property) as the principal image, Manjusri Bodhisattva and Bishamonten as flanking images, creating a state of wonder where the three truths and one truth can be found. Manjusri Bodhisattva is commonly known as Tahara Manjusri and is counted among the six Tendai mountains of Harima. On Coming of Age Day, a demon-chasing ceremony (Tsuina) is held.
