Nakanojo Town History and Folklore Museum "Musee"

The museum is housed in the building of a former elementary school (designated an important cultural property by Gunma Prefecture) that opened in 1885. The museum displays over 7,000 items from a wide range of fields, including history, folklore, and nature. Worth a look are the exhibits on heart-shaped clay figurines, the Sanada clan, a warlord from the Sengoku period (16th century to early 17th century), and Dutch studies from the end of the Edo period (around the 19th century). The elementary school classrooms, which retain the atmosphere of the Showa era (20th century), are also popular.
