Shima Onsen in Gunma , began as a popular hot springs spot for therapeutic purposes as far back as the Edo period, and in the Meiji period many travelers visited it in horse-drawn carriages and rickshaws. History has it that hot springs are effective in curing a myriad of illnesses, and they continue to be loved by many people even in the Reiwa era. And as we approach the end of 2020 and the beginning of a new year, Japan's first large-scale "hot spring x guesthouse" has been born. Discover new experiences at Spa Guesthouse Lourdes, a new type of stay where you can experience nature, food, people and live like a local. On March 10, 2023, the spa guesthouse was renamed SHIN Hot Spring Hotel LULUD and reopened. SHIN Hot Spring Hotel LULUD is a renovated hotel that was reborn from an abandoned hotel (ryokan) by combining it with art. While making use of the damage and aging of the building, the creative artists and creators used their ingenuity to create a minimalist space that stimulates the senses. Furthermore, with the desire to make it easier for people to enjoy Shima Onsen, which has many beneficial effects unique to this area, we aimed to create a "modern hot spring cure" style that is easy to visit and has a low barrier to entry. The renovation also includes the addition of rooms with private baths (hot springs) and a private sauna on the top floor. Surrounded by the nature of Shima Onsen, it is not only a base for sightseeing, but also a great place for workation and corporate training.
