Chion-in Temple

Chion-in Temple is the head temple of the Jodo sect of Buddhism. It is home to many important cultural properties, including the Sanmon Gate, one of the largest wooden double gates in Japan, and the main hall, Mikage-do, which enshrines the founder, Honen Shonin. Recommended spots to view the autumn leaves are the gardens, Yuzen-en and Hojo Garden, located just east of the Sanmon Gate. They are also lit up at night, creating a fantastical atmosphere.
