Udo Shrine

Udo Shrine is a rare shrine in Japan, with its main hall located inside a cave in a cliff facing the Pacific Ocean. The enshrined deity is Yamasachihiko (Hikohohodemi-no-Mikoto), and it is said to grant blessings such as matchmaking, safe childbirth, and safe travels. The shrine is famous for its "Untama-nage" (lucky ball throwing) method of worship, where men throw a terracotta ball with their left hand and women with their right, and it is said that if it lands in the depression in the rock formation on the rocks, your wish will come true. It is a popular tourist spot, attractive for its magnificent seascape and mystical shrine building.
