Sasayama Castle Daishoin

Japan, 669-2332 2-3 Kitashinmachi, Tamba Sasayama City, Hyogo Prefecture

Daishoin was built at the same time as Sasayama Castle was built in 1609. It was destroyed by fire on the night of January 6, 1944, but was rebuilt in March 2000 thanks to the passionate wishes and generous donations of Sasayama citizens. Features of Daishoin Daishoin is extremely large for a wooden residential building, and among the existing similar buildings, it is comparable to the Ninomaru Palace Ensamurai at Nijo Castle in Kyoto. The palace of Nijo Castle is a first-class building that served as the residence of the shogun when he went to Kyoto, so the Daishoin can be said to have an unprecedented scale and ancient architectural style for a shoin belonging to a feudal lord.
