Jian Zhen Memorial Hall (Minamisatsuma City, Kagoshima Prefecture)

A memorial museum where you can learn more about the Tang Dynasty high priest Jian zhen. Jian zhen, a high priest from the Tang Dynasty and the founder of Toshodaiji Temple in Nara, tried to travel to Japan at the invitation of Emperor Shomu, but the journey was extremely difficult at the time, and after five failed attempts and repeated difficulties, he lost both eyes.He lost both eyesight. In the 5th year of the Tenpyo Shoho era (753), he finally landed in Japan and introduced Buddhist precepts and medicinal knowledge to Japan. This memorial museum was built in 1992 to honor Jian zhen's great achievements. Inside the museum, in addition to replicas of Ganshin's seated statue, his journey and life are explained in detail through exhibits and large-screen videos. After the reopening, a wheelchair ramp and a spacious parking lot were added. We also have multilingual maps available for visitors from overseas.
