Shiroyama Park

It is said that the castle was built by Gaiki Takayama during the Eisho era (around 1510), and was the residence of the 6th generation of the Kanamori family from 1590 to 1692. As a mountain castle, it was hailed as ``one of the top three famous castles in the world,'' but it came under direct control of the Shogunate and was demolished during the Genroku era. Afterwards, the castle ruins became a park enjoyed by the townspeople. Being close to the city center and blessed with nature, the promenade is colored with flowers and autumn leaves, making it a paradise for wild birds and a delight for visitors. Also, on April 19, 1985, this park was selected as one of Japan's top 100 forest bathing areas.
