Katsuoka Park

Katsuoka Park began when Lord Tsunamura, the fourth lord of the Sendai domain, built a Shakado to pray for the repose of his mother Hatsuko Misawa (Masaoka), planted 1,000 cherry blossom saplings, and made it a place for the ``Four People's Excursion.'' Over time, even after the war, large-scale tree planting was carried out, and now around 350 trees, including weeping cherry trees, Somei Yoshino cherry trees, and wild cherry trees, are in bloom. It is one of Japan's top 100 urban parks and one of the nationally designated scenic spots of Okunohosomichi.
