Shimobe Onsen has been famous as Shingen's hidden hot spring since Takeda Shingen healed his wounds in the Battle of Kawanakajima with his soldiers here. According to an old theory before that, it is also said that during the reign of Emperor Keiko, a person named Shiomitani, who was a provincial governor of Kai Province, discovered the hot spring by chance during an inspection tour of the territory and named it Shiobe (lower part) hot spring. .
