Unzen/Obama Onsen

Obama Town, Unzen City, located in the southern part of Nagasaki Prefecture, is within the area of Unzen National Park, which was designated as the first national park in Japan. There are two hot spring areas with different spring quality. Unzen Onsen has been popular as a summer resort for foreigners since the Meiji and Taisho eras, and the harmony between nature, people and houses gives it an exotic atmosphere. The nature of Unzen is wonderful in every season, with azaleas in spring, fresh greenery in summer, red leaves in autumn, and hoarfrost in winter. In addition to traditional sightseeing spots such as Jigoku, Mt. Fugen, which erupted for the first time in 198 years, has subsided and a new mountain has been born. The name is also named "Heisei Shinzan", and you can see the powerful lava dome up close from the Nita Pass observatory. On the other hand, Obama Onsen, located at the foot of Unzen and facing Tachibana Bay, boasts an abundance of hot spring water from about 30 sources. The pride of Obama Onsen is the beauty of the sun setting over Tachibana Bay along with the abundance of hot water. Japan's longest footbath "Hot Foot 105" opened on February 2, 2010, and is rich in variety.
