[Japan Heritage] Samurai residence at the foot of Kaseda

Kaseda, Minamisatsuma City, flourished as the outer castle of the Satsuma domain, and the houses of the samurai from over 100 years ago still remain. There are buildings showing the prosperity of Kaseda since the Meiji period, large private houses, modern Japanese-style houses, and Western-style clapboard hospital buildings. There are around 100 buildings that are over 50 years old that still exist. Along the waterway, you can see the beautiful cityscape of stone walls, inumaki, and samurai gates. Speaking of the streets of Kagoshima, the samurai residences of Chiran and Izumi from before the Edo period are famous, but Kaseda has many cultural heritage sites left after the Meiji Restoration. There is a landscape that tells the story of Kagoshima's modern history, which has not been much noticed until now.
