Previously, the water was used as well water for residents. A long time ago, Kobo Daishi (also known as Kukaijin) stopped in Futtsu and asked an old woman for a glass of water during his pilgrimage to various countries. The old woman's reply was pleasant, but after a long wait, she was finally able to drink water. It was discovered that the reason for this was that there was no water from a well nearby, and in order to save the residents their troubles, they pointed out the location of the water source with a hexagonal staff. Legend has it that when the locals dug in this area, fresh water gushed out. It was the only drinking water well in the area until the current water supply facility was built, and the fact that it has a sawtooth shape with a water grid on the curb is a reminder of how old this well was.
