Echizen Matsushima

Echizen Matsushima in Hokuriku is as good as the famous Matsushima. This scenic spot was named ``Echizen Matsushima'' because the beautiful scenery created by the small island resembles Matsushima in Rikuzen (Miyagi). A majestic rocky area appears between quiet fishing villages along the coastline that stretches northeast from Tojinbo. It is a landscape created by the same columnar joint rocks as Tojinbo, but there are various unique scenery such as fan rock and timber rock. The area is dotted with beautiful small islands. You can enjoy the beauty of the coast with various strangely shaped rocks and caves, including a course where you can climb rocky mountains with stone bridges and a course where you can explore the ruins of a sea cave. Echizen Matsushima Aquarium, right next door, is a rare aquarium that uses part of Matsushima. You can also take a walk towards the sea from here, and enjoy the quiet horizon in the summer and the dynamic waves in the winter.
