Myorakuji Temple

The Chita Shikoku Pilgrimage began at Myorakuji Temple. It was founded in 1809 after the temple's monk Ryozan received a revelation from Kobo Daishi. After receiving the revelation, monk Ryozan recruited two ascetics, Okado Hanzo and Takeda Yasubei, and traveled to each of the pilgrimage sites to seek understanding so that they could connect the new Shikoku Pilgrimage sites to the Chita Peninsula. Sixteen years later, they were finally able to establish 88 temples on the Chita Peninsula.
