Suyama Sengen Shrine

Mount Fuji World Cultural Heritage Site (registered in June 2013) Suyama Sengen Shrine is an essential component that proves the outstanding universal value of Mount Fuji as an object of worship. Suyama Sengen Shrine, located at the southern foot of Mount Fuji, is the starting point of the Suyamaguchi hiking trail. The shrine grounds, covered with giant cedar trees said to be 400 to 500 years old, are filled with a sacred atmosphere, and the shrine enshrines Konohanasakuyahime, who is said to be the goddess of matchmaking, safe childbirth, and fertility. The stone lantern with a small heart-shaped (boar's eye pattern) window is also photogenic.
