History

This memorial hall was established in 1975 to honor Kunio Yanagita (a recipient of the Order of Culture and the first honorary citizen of Fukusaki Town), known as the "father of Japanese folklore studies" and the author of many works such as "Gokari Kotobuki" and "Tono Monogatari," and the Matsuoka family, who were active in the fields of medicine, Japanese studies, linguistics, and art.
