Toyo Park

Hokoen is a famous cherry blossom spot in Nagahama City, Shiga Prefecture, and was built in 1918 on the ruins of Nagahama Castle, which was abandoned in the early Edo period. This is a historic park named Toyo Park after Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the lord of Nagahama Castle. Approximately 600 Somei Yoshino trees are planted, and in spring the contrast between the Nagahama Castle Historical Museum and the cherry blossoms create a beautiful view. The best time to see the flowers in the usual year is from early to mid-April, and another attractive feature is that you can enjoy a leisurely stroll while feeling the breeze of the lake shore. The park also features a Western-style garden with music playing, a fountain, a children's park, and tennis courts, making it a place where families and tourists can relax. You can enjoy spring cherry blossom viewing while feeling the history and nature.
