Key Technology Gunma Astronomical Observatory

An observatory that houses one of Japan's largest reflecting telescopes, allowing direct visual observation. On weekends and public holidays, you can actually use these large telescopes for "stargazing," where you can view seasonal celestial objects at their best without making a reservation (but may be canceled in the event of bad weather). Takayama Village has enacted a light environment ordinance to protect the beautiful starry sky, and on dark, moonless nights you can see a sky full of stars that makes you feel as if you were in a planetarium.
