Danjo Garan

Danjo Garan is considered the first sacred area established by Kobo Daishi Kukai when he founded Mount Koya. Along with Kongobuji Temple, it forms the heart of Mount Koya and is home to numerous temple buildings, including the Konpon Daito, Kondo, Saito, and Fudo Hall. The Konpon Daito, standing approximately 50 meters tall, is a symbol of the main training center of Shingon Esoteric Buddhism, and its vibrant vermilion color is particularly eye-catching. Furthermore, the Sanko no Pine tree in the center of the temple complex is said to be the spot where a ritual implement (a vajra) thrown by Kukai from Tang China landed, and is beloved as a symbol of faith.
