Nagasaki Shinchi Chinatown

Nagasaki Shinchi Chinatown is one of Japan's three largest Chinatowns alongside Yokohama and Kobe, and is lined with around 40 Chinese restaurants and general goods stores. The streets of the crossroads that run east-west and north-south are decorated with red gates and lanterns, creating an exotic atmosphere. It is popular with many tourists as a spot where you can enjoy a variety of gourmet foods, including Nagasaki specialties such as champon, sara udon, and kakuni manju. In addition, at the Nagasaki Lantern Festival, held every year during the Lunar New Year, the entire town is decorated with gorgeous lanterns and the area is bustling with people. (Photo by AC)
