Mt. Kinkō-ji

Located on the northeastern side of Nakanoshima Island, the lookout on Mt. Kinkō-ji overlooks the only plain in the Dōzen Islands where rice is cultivated. Near the top of the mountain (164 m) is a natural spring and Kinkō-ji Temple. It is said that Emperor Go-Toba and Ono-no-Takamura both visited the temple during their exile on Nakanoshima Island. Ono-no-Takamura, a scholar and poet who was exiled to the Oki Islands in 838, is said to have retired to the temple for many days to pray for his return to the capital. *The path leading to the top of Mt. Kinkō-ji is quite steep, but the view from the lookout is very rewarding. If you time your visit well, you can also see the ferries going between Dōgo and the Dōzen Islands!
