Ichijo Shrine

Japan, 1-11 Nakamurahonmachi, Shimanto City, Kochi Prefecture 787-0001

Ichijo Shrine was built in 1862 by volunteers to remember the virtues of the Tosa Ichijo clan on the site of the Ichijo family's mausoleum, which was located on the summit of Mt. Komori, part of the remains of the Nakamura Imperial Palace. The Tosa Ichijo clan began with the former Kanpaku Norifusa Ichijo, who went down to avoid the Onin War. This shrine enshrines the spirits of Norifusa's father, Kaneyoshi, and the Tosa Ichijo clan. Known as "Ichijoko-san" by locals, the Ichijo Grand Festival is held annually from November 22nd to 24th. The current shrine building was built in 1944.
