Hounzenji Temple (Hounji Temple) on Mt. Daiho

This temple is of the Obaku sect, a type of Zen sect. It retains strong Ming-style architecture and culture to this day. It is also famous as a spot where a variety of flowers bloom from spring to summer, including azaleas, hydrangeas, dogwoods, and lotus flowers. When the approximately 1,000 azaleas planted there are in full bloom, the temple grounds leave a particularly gorgeous impression. Many people visit from within the prefecture and beyond to view and worship the flowers.
