Aki City History and Folklore Museum

The History and Folklore Museum is located in the ruins of Aki Castle in Doi Kuruwa-naka. The museum's collection includes art and craft items and ancient documents handed down by the Goto family, who were the chief retainers of the Tosa clan, as well as many other personal belongings related to Yataro Iwasaki, who built the foundations of the Mitsubishi zaibatsu; Ryutaro Hirota, who composed many children's songs such as "Hamachidori"; and Ruiko Kuroiwa, a rebellious journalist who worked to popularize translated novels and popular literature. Other items on display include precious everyday items, archaeological materials and ancient documents excavated from within Aki City. Special exhibitions are held two to three times a year, including a special exhibition that displays Hina dolls from Aki City from the Meiji, Taisho, and early Showa periods. There is also a calligraphy museum next door.
