Kusakabe Heritage House

Japan, 506-0851 1-52 Daishinmachi, Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture

It was built in 1896. The eaves are low, deep, and stately, just like a private house in a snowy country. With its massive structure and beautiful latticework, it was the first townhouse building built since the Meiji period to be designated as an Important Cultural Property, along with the neighboring Yoshijima House. The spatial beauty expressed by the gorgeously constructed beams and wide dirt floor is a building that can be said to be the culmination of private house architecture that makes the most of techniques from the Edo period.
