Lake Suwa in Nagano Prefecture is 2 hours and 20 minutes from Tokyo (JR Shinjuku Station) and 10 minutes walk from JR Kamisuwa Station. Centered around Suwa Taisha, one of the oldest shrines in Japan, and the mysterious Lake Suwa, it has one of the largest amounts of hot springs in Japan, and the lakeside is lined with historic Japanese-style inns and modern hotels. Approximately 6 million tourists visit the area each year, attracted by its wide variety of attractions and mysteries, including the month-long summer fireworks display and kayaking on Lake Suwa.
