BIZEN Museum of Latin American Art

Japan's only Museum of Latin American Archeology. The museum has a collection of approximately 2,100 exhibits, including archaeological artefacts and ethnographic materials from 11 countries in Central and South America, from Mexico to Peru. The main collection is cultural heritage from Central and South America, including pottery, clay figurines, stone carvings, and textiles made in the ancient Americas. It is rare to find a facility in Japan or abroad that has such an extensive collection of ancient Latin American art, and it is extremely valuable both in terms of quality and quantity, both academically and in the history of art. The late collector Seiichi Morishita made his fortune manufacturing and selling fishing nets in Hinase-cho,Bizen City,and during a business trip to South America, he became fascinated with the relics of ancient American culture and began collecting them. Later, he established a foundation to promote local culture and donated the facilities and all his works.
